In New York City during the early 1900s, a boy named Pip sets forth on an incredible journey, coming face to face with a crazed convict, his first love, and a quest to discover his true identity.
This original Rogue adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic text "Great Expectations" was re-envisioned for a new generation of theatergoers and set in Manhattan during the American industrial revolution amidst a backdrop of class struggle and turmoil. This story was created as never before imagined with a horrifying 8’ tall Miss Havisham, the East River brought to life onstage, and Pip’s fantastic journey from boy to man brought to life as only the Rogues can do: in Hyper-theater.
PIP featured a cast of puppets, masked characters, amazing scenic elements, special theatrical effects, dance, and an original musical score combining songs from the turn of the century with a new modern industrial score.

“Pip, dear old chap, life is made of ever so many partings welded together, as I may say, and one man’s a blacksmith, and one’s a whitesmith, and one’s a goldsmith, and one’s a coppersmith. Divisions among such must come, and must be met as they come.”

PIP was the second project developed and workshopped by Rogue Artists Ensemble and performed at the University of California, Irvine in January 2003 to accolades from all who experienced this technically sophisticated and groundbreaking production.
PIP was one of our first projects and we are currently looking into creating an updated staging of this exciting production. Be sure to sign up for our mailing list to be the first to hear about any developments!

“So, said Estella, 'I must be taken as I have been made. The success is not mine, the failure is not mine, but the two together make me'”
